We had a district show yesterday. We had to decide whether to take 4 horses or 7. We decided on 4. Our trailer was filled with Cruz, Pee-Wee, Smokey and Earl. 1 horse for each of us and the boys both ride Smokey.
In the jackpot class, I won the 3D, Ryan won the 4D and Stephanie also placed in the 4D on Earl(his first actual show being entered). None of us were thrilled, but happy to win checks. In the NBHA Class, I was just out of placing in the 1D! Cruz came back and really worked well. I still had a couple small errors that slowed us down, but to have improved over half a second, and have 3 decent barrels, I was not upset. I told him I'd give him the next few weeks off until our State Show-I think he understood what I was saying. Ryan cut 8 tenths off of his time and was just out of placing in the 3D this time. He would have liked to of placed, but his run was really smooth and clean so he was not upset. Stephanie got 4 tenths faster and placed in the 4D. This is great. Earl has not been hauled. He is patterned but needs seasoning. He has a lot of room for improvement. The pen got slower for the NBHA Class, so I was really impressed that all of our horses cut time off the clock.
I plan to keep Cruz fit, but am going to focus on my other riding horses for the next couple weeks... Scrapie, Corey and yes, Fire. All of them could easily step up into our first string of barrel horses. All in all, Corey has more speed and quickness in his turn than any other horse we own. Scrapie was loping the pattern in just a couple weeks and can really turn. And Fire, shoot enough said. He was just meant to be a barrel horse. Between Cruz & Fire, they just came here as barrel horses, I just had to show them the pattern.
Today, we have teasing and breeding to do. I am sure we will need to collect both stallions, and breed quite a few mares. Saturday seems to be our only real day off. I am headed out to get started. Hope you had a great weekend!
